TODAY IN LITERARY HISTORY: Birthday of Virginia Woolf (1882)   An English writer and one of the foremost modernists of the twentieth century. More than seventy years after her death, Virginia Woolf continues to be a source of inspiration, analysis, interest, and admiration. Emphasis on a small number of famous events in her lifetime has turned her into a mythological figure that, at times, may have little resemblance to the flesh-and-blood woman behind the brand.  Did You know: In April 1935, Virginia and Leonard Woolf decided to drive through Germany as part of their annual holiday.   Recently we were asked if a signed copy had a ‘Certificate of Authenticity’  for an author signed modern first edition. Our stated policy is this: Due to the prevalence of fraudulent Certificates of Authenticity from dishonest sellers, we avoid using that term. As members of the ABAA, we adhere to its Code of Ethics and can provide a letter confirming the item is as described. If, within a reasonable time after receiving it, you are unsatisfied, you may return it for a full refund, provided it remains unaltered and undamaged. It is not inappropriate to inquire.  Often as a seller we know the background of the book. With the book in question, we had acquired several all signed by the same author from a collector.  We have had signed copies before and had examples of the signature.   For greater assurance, any purchase from us comes with the backing of our membership in respected trade associations, including the ABAA, FABA, and IOBA. These organizations require...

DID YOU KNOW :……….The website Snopes com took its name from the Snopes, an unpleasant family who feature in the works of William Faulkner. Or that ………. William Faulkner was born Falkner; according to one story, the ‘u’ was the result of a typesetting error Faulkner didn’t bother to correct. Curiously, Falkner ’s great-grandfather had been Colonel Faulkner but had removed the ‘u’ – William put it back. William Cuthbert Faulkner was a Nobel Prize-winning American novelist and short story writer. One of the most influential writers of the twentieth century, his reputation is based mostly on his novels, novellas, and short stories. He was also a published poet and an occasional screenwriter.  The majority of his works are based in his native state of Mississippi. Though his work was published as early as 1919, and largely during the 1920s and 1930s, Faulkner was relatively unknown until...
