Did you know: A.A. Milne unknowingly caused a Latin bestseller. Alexander Lennard’s translation of Winnie-the-Pooh – Winnie ille Pu – was published in 1958, two years after Milne’s death, and in 1960 became the only work in Latin ever to appear in the New York Times’ bestseller list. Not bad for a bear of very little brain.
An English author, best known for his books about the teddy bear Winnie-the-Pooh and for various poems. Milne was already a noted writer, primarily as a playwright, before the huge success of Pooh overshadowed all his previous work. Milne served in both World Wars, joining the British Army in World War I, and was a captain of the British Home Guard in World War II.
Winnie the Pooh, the "Bear of Very Little Brain," continues to be a bear with lots of fame. In fact, Pooh is honored every January 18th, otherwise known as Winnie the Pooh Day.
